Call for Proposals Open Now

ISEA2013 will consist of exhibitions, performances, symposium and public events to be held in Sydney from the Friday 7th of June until Sunday 16th of June 2013. It will also support residencies and associated events throughout regional NSW and across Australia leading into and out of the core event.

We are currently seeking Expressions of Interest from artists and organisations wishing to develop, commission or present work in association with ISEA2013.  Applicants whose projects are dependent on funding from other sources (i.e. government, philanthropic agencies, etc.) with deadlines approaching are particularly encouraged to apply now.  Other applications would be preferred in later Rounds (please see dates below) when ISEA2013’s own funding position will be clearer.

ISEA2013 has limited funds to invest directly in new work and we are able to work with selected artists and organisations to secure resources, venues and partners for specific projects. We are also able to provide support letters and logistical support to selected projects.

In this round ISEA2013 is working with the Australia Council for The Arts to support a few major projects to secure support through the Creative Australia program. Applicants interested in these opportunities are encouraged to submit in this round. Short listed projects may be asked to submit, with our support, an Australia Council application form.

This first round call out for EOI’s is focussed on projects with impending grant due dates and large-scale projects with long lead times, below is a list of cut off dates for future rounds.

Round 1 (Large-scale projects) Monday, 6th February 2012
Round 2 Friday, 6th April 2012
Round 3 Friday, 8st June 2012
Later Call(s) TBC

Applications are encouraged for exhibitions, performance works, outdoor installations, interventions, residencies or other creative projects and programs. Ambitious works are encouraged although our resources are limited.

At this stage ISEA2013’s Expression of Interest form requires only a broad outline of the proposed work and the resources required however the more detail you can provide the more likely we are to be able support the project. ISEA2013 will be accessing applications regularly throughout 2012 and will continue to do so while resources are available.

Conference papers and proposals are not yet open. They will be called for later in 2012.

THEME

Electronic Art – Resistance is Futile

The bleeding edge of digital art has moved from the margins to become part of the fabric of everyday life.  At once ubiquitous and unnoticed, resistance to electronic art has proven futile — it now lies embedded in the heart of our contemporary cultures. ISEA2013 will bleed through Sydney, from the margin to the core. More than a series of exhibitions (although that will be part of it), the symposium events will infuse the city’s social, digital and physical infrastructure. ISEA2013 aims to create a fluid body of thought, culture, community, industry, science and technology.

Artists play an important role in this “bleeding edge.” By creatively investigating the possibilities and pushing the limits of new technologies, artists help us imaginatively experience and critically reflect on their implications for life in the 21st century. Digital electronic art is our source of innovation, the new norm in everything from publishing to TV, to radio, games, film, fashion, music, architecture, design, applications and gadgets. Ubiquitous and pervasive, digital media permeates almost all creative endeavors in everyday life and the city. The urban spaces of Sydney will provide the scene for thinking through the consequences of digital life, creative industries, and contemporary electronic art practice.
